"New Bird"
Born to run
Are we born to run
God I make the same mistakes over and over again
Listen to the bluebird sing
Every key that I can’t reach
It’s heavy

Born to run
I think we’re born to run
So why do I come back home?
My heart is evergreen
‘Cause everything I’ve seen
Hasn’t killed me
See?

This world
Tires me out
But I won’t let it
Hold me down.
And so
In other words
I’m no mistake
Just a work in progress
"22"
I don’t know who I’m gonna be
The weight of my mind is hurting me
I’ve still got time, though

So I won’t cry, no

Breathe the worst in, let it be
To overcome it for all to see
We’ve still got time, though
So we won’t cry, no, we won’t.

Keep your head up
Keep your eyes wide
Mend your heartstrings
It will subside

I don’t know who I’m gonna be
But love is gently shaping me
"Deep Blue"
Reaching forward
It’s all going numb
Do we falter
Just because we’re young

Come back, I need you... Sleeping to see you
Oh, God I’m a wreck without you

Thought I knew it
Traced the map in pen
Do I leave it
Or do I start again

Come back, I need you... Sleeping to see you
Oh, God I’m a wreck without you
I’m feeling see-through... dancing in deep blue
Oh, God I’m a mess without you
"Friend"
Looked to my old friend
I punched him square in the jaw
Said “I don’t know him”
And everybody saw
Yeah, “peace and love” works
Until their words hurt
Until your knees shake
Until your dreams burn

Became a doormat
Rather be fodder than fed
I ascertained that
Nobody cared what I said
Yeah, “slow to speak” works
Until their words hurt
Until your knees shake
Until the world burns

Never pretend
To know the end
See me
Living the way
I used to say
Would kill me

I miss my old friend
We grew up out of the blood
And every year or so
We talk about how we must
Must’ve been tired
To’ve snapped back then
And now we don’t have to think the same way to
Call each other “friend”
